Incorporated in 1970, JUCC has grown from two core members to 19 members nowadays from the Higher Education sector in Hong Kong and Macau. Throughout the past 5 decades, JUCC has successfully established itself as the platform for fostering deep collaborations among higher education member institutions and facilitating research via The Hong Kong Academic and Research NETwork (HARNET).

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary, a series of celebration activities were planned and organised since 2019, including hosting the APAN50 Meeting, issuing the JUCC50 Commemorative Publication, organizing a hybrid JUCC50 Conference, etc. Under the COVID-19 pandemic, the JUCC50 Organizing Committee made a concerted effort to tackle the challenges in innovative ways.
