Report on APAN59

The APAN59 workshop held in Yokohama, Japan, was a remarkable convergence of research, collaboration, and innovation across Asia-Pacific’s research and education networks. My engagement at the event extended across several technical Working Group (WG) sessions, with a
strong focus on emerging network technologies, intelligent systems, and cloud-based infrastructures.

Working Group Sessions
One of the major highlights of my participation was having the privilege to present in the AI Driven Network Working Group on March 5, 2025. My presentation focused on our final report for Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks (SAGIN), covering critical aspects such as controller placement strategies, dynamic topology management, and a novel framework for LLM-based (Large Language Model) resource orchestration. The feedback and interactive discussion with fellow researchers during the session were immensely valuable and underscored the growing interest in intelligent space networking architectures. I also attended the IoT Working Group (IoT WG), which provided insightful discussions on the latest trends in Internet of Things applications and architectures. The session focused on real-world use cases, connectivity models, and security frameworks, all of which align closely with my ongoing research in integrated networking environments.

The Identity Federation Updates (IAM WG) and Open and Sharing Data WG were equally insightful, offering perspectives on data trust, interoperability, and user identity federation across cross-institutional platforms. These discussions are crucial in designing scalable and secure
infrastructures. My participation in the Cloud WG sessions enriched my understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The emphasis on research infrastructure scalability, security, and federated access through the cloud reflects the growing importance of cloud-native thinking in
academic and scientific institutions. Furthermore, I found the Agriculture Working Group (AgWG) sessions to be a unique blend of technical and societal focus—showcasing how digital technologies can be leveraged for sustainable agriculture, smart farming, and rural development.
These sessions provided a rich mosaic of ideas, collaborative prospects, and cross-disciplinary innovations broadening my technical expertise and reinforcing the value of inclusive research ecosystems.

As I reflect on the workshop experience, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the APAN organizing committee for their meticulous planning and execution of such a comprehensive and insightful event. The seamless coordination of diverse sessions, spanning topics from IPv6 and 5G to climate resilience and cloud computing, speaks to the dedication and expertise of the committee. Their efforts not only facilitated a smooth flow of information but also created an environment conducive to meaningful interactions and knowledge exchange among participants.

Furthermore, the Closing Ceremony, held on March 7, offered a reflective and celebratory conclusion to a week filled with learning, networking, and innovation. The event featured closing remarks from APAN leadership, honoring the collaborative spirit that defines the APAN community. It was followed by the General Assembly, where strategic directions and future goals were shared with the broader community. This final day emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in technical engagement and fostering a more inclusive and forward thinking APAN ecosystem.

Personal Experience in Yokohama

Beyond the academic engagements, the cultural and urban experience in Yokohama was truly memorable. I had the opportunity to explore some of the city’s most iconic attractions, including the TeamsLab 3D Animation in Tokyo, the breath-taking Yokohama Cosmo Clock 21, and the Skyline Tower, which offered panoramic views of the cityscape. These moments offered a refreshing break and deeper appreciation for the hosting city’s vibrant culture and innovative friendly environment.

I sincerely thank the APAN59 organizing committee for their outstanding execution of the  event. The seamless orchestration of sessions, technical diversity, and welcoming environment created an unforgettable experience. This workshop not only deepened my knowledge but also
expanded my professional network, which I look forward to collaborating with in future research endeavors.
