APAN Launches HPC-AI Birds of a Feather, Fosters Regional Collaboration

The Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) is proud to announce the establishment of a new Birds of a Feather (BoF) group focused on High-Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence (HPC/AI). This exciting initiative, initiated by the Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN), aims to foster collaboration and drive innovation in these critical fields across the Asia-Pacific region.

Milestones Achieved

The HPC-AI BoF made significant progress during its inaugural meeting at APAN57 in Bangkok. The highlights of the inaugural meeting were:

  • Successful launch and convening of the BoF.
  • Establishment of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the BoF.
  • Selection of Dr. Asitha Bandaranayake as Chair of the BoF, with the option of selecting the co-chairs among the members online.
  • Insightful and inspiring keynote on “Recent development of HPC and AI in Thailand” by Dr. Piyawut Srichaikul, the Director of NSTDA Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC) and the Deputy Executive Director of NECTEC.

Looking Ahead

The BoF is poised for continued growth and impact with exciting plans for the future, including:

  • Organization of workshops and training programs on HPC-AI technologies.
  • Facilitation of collaborative research projects within the APAN network.
  • Planning the continuation of the APAN Conference with the “HPC & AI: Better Together” theme at the APAN58 meeting to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, in August 2024.

Get Involved

If you’re a researcher, practitioner, or enthusiast in HPC or AI within the APAN region, this BoF presents a valuable opportunity to collaborate and advance these fields. Join this exciting initiative by subscribing to the mailing list (hpc-ai@apan.net).

We are excited to see what the future holds for the HPC-AI BoF as it works to advance the integration of these powerful technologies for the benefit of the entire APAN region.
