My Experience at APAN 61: A Fellow’s Perspective
As an undergraduate student, attending APAN 61 as a fellow was a priceless experience. As this was my first time participating in an APAN meeting, my primary goals were to understand the organization’s mission and discover how to become an active contributor.
I participated in several Working Groups (WGs), including the Cloud WG, where we discussed migrating existing cloud infrastructure to more efficient, modern systems. In the IPv6 WG, the conversation focused on transitioning from dual-stack systems to native IPv6 environments. I also gained valuable insights from sessions hosted by the HPC/AI WG, AI-Driven NetworkWG, and SIG Network.
To better understand the impact of this community, I spoke with Agriculture session chairs, including Dr. Veerachai, and APAN Board member Dr. Chalermpol. We discussed Thailand’s role within APAN and the strategic goals for the future. They emphasized that our involvement is driven by a desire to contribute to the global Research and Education Network (REN) and maintain strong international relations.
Dr. Chalermpol shared a poignant thought: he plans to retire within the next ten years and is actively looking for the next generation of researchers to continue this work. As a student, I am deeply grateful to have been part of this event and feel inspired to contribute to the future of the network.
Following the event, I hosted briefing session at my university to share insight and my experience through APAN, I was honored to be joined by Professor Sukumal Kitisin, Treasurer of ThaiREN, who provided further context on Thailand’s role in the regional network.
